Hi! I’m Rachel. I live on the stunning Isle of Wight and I’m lucky enough to make a living doing something I love.
(That’s making fudge, if that wasn’t clear 😂)

I’ve been running Slab for over 10 years, and along the way I’ve birthed two humans, made some pretty big life changes, and grown Slab into something I’m incredibly proud of.
2015 — The Beginning
Slab started in autumn 2015 with the idea that it might be “fun” to learn how to make fudge.
Spoiler: it was not as simple as I’d expected 😅
Three months - countless burnt pans, fudge that stayed the consistency of sauce, gritty fudge and fudge that literally spat at me - later, I finally cracked it. Just in time for Christmas, I had a recipe that was smooth, creamy and—most importantly—impossible to stop eating 🤣
I booked a busy two-day Christmas market, made LOTS of fudge and hoped for the best. People went mad for the samples and I completely sold out on day one. I was so excited by the response that I didn’t even mind staying up until 5am cooking more for day two!
I knew I was onto something.
2016–2025 — The Development Years
The next few years were a whirlwind of developing the branding and packaging, launching the website and opening a shop in West Cowes.
Then, in 2018, I had my son—which was rather more of a life adjustment than I could have imagined! My daughter arrived at Christmas 2021, followed by a house move across the water to East Cowes.
Slab then relocated to its current premises near Osborne House, and the next couple of years are something of a blur of raising children, not getting much sleep, cooking fudge, attending events and festivals, and generally fitting Slab in wherever I could.
2025–Present — Coming Back Strong 💪
My darling bundles of joy are now both at school (hooray! I survived!), which means I’ve been able to focus my full attention on Slab again—and it feels incredible. 💕
I’ve refreshed the packaging and sleeve design, refined the recipe and, notably, replaced dairy cream with oat cream. You can read more about that in About Our Fudge.
I’m now back out at markets and events, cooking full-time at our East Cowes premises and fulfilling wholesale orders from local businesses all the way to the USA!
I’ve never been prouder of Slab or more passionate about what I do, and I’m ridiculously excited about what’s to come.
I’m a very lucky girl. ✨
